2012 Kia Sorento
Mileage76,792Service Date4/15/2026Services Performed- The customer states the anti-lock brake system (ABS) light is on. Cause Connected a scan tool and found code C1209 – Right rear Wheel Sensor Open Or Short To Ground. Performed a road test while monitoring live scan tool data and observed the anti-lock brake system (ABS) wheel speed sensor parameter was erratic. Inpsected the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness and connector and detected no obvious faults. With the ignition on and the engine off, used a multi-meter to check for the presence of voltage and ground at the ABS wheel speed sensor connector and found both were present. Raised the vehicle, backprobed the ABS wheel speed sensor, and monitored the sensor signal on a lab scope while spinning the wheel by hand. The ABS wheel speed sensor signal observed on the lab scope was erratic. These test results verified the ABS wheel speed sensor was faulty. Correction Replaced the ABS wheel speed sensor, cleared codes, performed a road test and verified the vehicle operated properly. The ABS light did not illuminate and no fault codes returned.
