Confirmed the customer's complaint and found the engine ran rough. Inspected the air intake system and the fuel system, but found no faults. Connected a spark tester to the ignition coil, cranked the engine, and found the coil did not produce a steady spark. Attached a lab scope with an inductive ammeter to the ignition coil control circuit, cranked the engine, and monitored the ignition coil primary amperage waveform on the lab scope. The ignition coil primary amperage waveform monitored on the lab scope indicated the ignition coil was shorted. These test results verified the ignition coil was faulty.
Connected a scan tool and found code P2135 – Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "A"/"B" Voltage Correlation. Performed a throttle sweep, monitored the throttle position sensor signal parameters using the scan tool and found the throttle position sensor signal parameters did not maintain the specified correlation as the throttle was swept. Visually inspected the throttle position sensor wiring harness and found no obvious signs of damage. Used a multi-meter to check for the presence of a short or open in the throttle position sensor wiring harness and found there were no shorts or opens present. Key on, engine off used the multi-meter to inspect for voltage and ground at the throttle position sensor connector and found the specified 5 volts and ground were present. These test results verified the throttle position sensor was faulty. The throttle position sensor is integrated into the throttle body and is replaced as an entire unit.
